UF filters typically filter the water down to 0.03 microns; Brova states 0.01 microns, but 0.03 µm is more realistic, but even at this level, 100% of all parasites and bacteria are removed. It will also remove most viruses from the water and particles of plastic.
Typically water filtration in Bocas is down to 5 um, and maybe with UV, this type of system does not remove bacteria or most of the parasites. UV works well for bacteria, but due to the high concentration of iron in the water (>0.1 mg/l), the UV quartz tubes get coated with a very thin film of iron that you can't see, and this stops most of the UV light from treating the water.
If you want to have safe water to drink, then UF is the solution. Shower water should be as good as drinking water because any bacteria present in the water will enter your lungs. Your stomach can deal with bacteria, but your lungs are much more sensitive. I therefore recommend that you fit one or two of the UF units and treat all of the water entering your property.
The product specification states 2,500 litres per hour of water; however, at 1 to 2 bar pressure, a more realistic figure is 500 to 1,000 litres per hour. This is still sufficient for most homes and small restaurant businesses. If more water is required, use two or more filters.
The membranes should last for many years, but spare membranes are available if required
