Mangrove forests
Mangroves are salt-tolerant trees that grow where the land meets the sea, their tangled roots forming a living bridge between rainforest and reef. Around Seahorse Point they shelter juvenile fish, crabs and seahorses, filter the water flowing out to the coral, and lock away large amounts of carbon in their waterlogged soils. Protecting and restoring these coastal forests is central to our regeneration work in Bocas del Toro.
