Seahorses
Seahorses are among the most enchanting and vulnerable creatures of the sea, and they give our reserve its name. A seahorse is a poor swimmer that holds on to seagrass, sponges and mangrove roots, so it cannot move away when its habitat is lost. Its presence does not prove that the water is clean, but it shows that this habitat structure is still standing. Protecting the seagrass meadows and reefs of Bastimentos Island helps safeguard the seahorses that live among them.
