We can’t stop climate change, but maybe we can prevent our own extinction
Everything possible needs to be done, including carbon mitigation. At the rate at which nature is declining on land and marine life in the oceans, humanity will have definitely wiped out more than 90% of all wildlife on the planet over the next 10 to 20 years.
It is also known that humanity cannot survive without nature; indeed, we are part of nature, but what I fail to understand is why nobody is really concerned. There is not going to be some miracle or invention that will save everyone; it’s not possible. Life on earth is now going to rapidly deteriorate.
Already, pollution-related medical issues are causing more deaths and infirmities than all diseases and wars combined. 30% of all children living on the planet now suffer brain damage from lead poisoning. 90% of all cancers are caused by environmental toxins; all rainwater is contaminated by toxic plastic, pharmaceuticals, and lipotoxic chemicals. It’s hard to imagine, but this is going to get seriously worse. Food supplies and medical services will likely collapse over the next 10 years.
We also know the solution: the elimination of all forms of pollution and the regeneration of ecosystems. However, unless the entire world gets behind this now, it will be too late. Tragically, I don’t think governments, industry, or most people are in a position to do anything or even truly believe how close we are to the Abyss.
To demonstrate the absolute stupidity of our behaviour, I attached a report to this post that basically says that if we had not overexploited the commercial fish stocks of the world’s oceans, we would not have climate change. Yet we are fixated on carbon mitigation, electric cars, and wind turbines that have zero chance of stopping catastrophic climate change and ecosystem destruction.
Indeed, climate change will be a walk in the park in comparison to what is now happening to the life support system of the planet.
